Newark Police Investigating Grocery Store ATM robbery

NEWARK, NJ – A burglary at a local grocery store has prompted Newark’s Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé to appeal to the public for assistance in identifying the individuals involved. The incident took place at the Jiminez Grocery Store, located in the heart of the city, in the early hours of Thursday, May 19, 2023.

At approximately 2:45 am, three male suspects are believed to have entered the store through an unlocked cellar door. The store’s security footage shows the suspects, wearing dark clothing and masks, maneuvering through the store and ultimately removing an ATM machine.

The machine, which was bolted to the floor, was forcibly removed and transported out of the premises by the suspects. According to the Newark Police Department, it is believed the machine contained a substantial amount of cash.
