FREDERICK, MD – The Frederick Police Department has made a significant development in the case of a missing 15-year-old, Limber Lopez Funez, by discovering human remains believed to be his.

FPD detectives have charged five suspects with first-degree murder in connection to the boy’s disappearance earlier this year.

On February 25, the family of Limber Lopez Funez reported his disappearance to the Frederick Police Department. The Major Crimes Unit immediately initiated an investigation to locate the teenager. During a search in the wooded area near Orchard Way on the early morning of February 26, detectives uncovered a crime scene suggesting a severe assault had taken place.

The scene was processed, and the search for Lopez Funez continued.

As the investigation progressed, information emerged indicating that Lopez Funez might have been in the vicinity of Gambrill State Park. Detectives conducted multiple searches, and on April 24, human remains were discovered in the Gambrill State Park area.

Subsequent confirmation revealed them to be those of Limber Lopez Funez.

“Since Mr. Lopez Funez was first reported missing back in late February, we have had officers and detectives working tirelessly, investigating this case,” said Chief of Police, Jason Lando. “Our team spent countless hours following leads and conducting searches all over the county. We were all hoping to find Limber alive and well, but sadly that did not happen.”

Continuing their investigation, detectives collected digital, video, and forensic evidence that led to the identification of the five suspects involved in the murder of Limber Lopez Funez. Arrest warrants were issued for the suspects, and on May 26, 2023, law enforcement executed search and seizure warrants to apprehend them. All five suspects have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with this case. Their names are Alexis Alfredo Ayala Lopez, Jose Roberto Ramos Lopez, Ismael Lopez Lopez, Elmer Bladimir Reyes Reyes, and Ismael Ivan Rivera Canales.

Chief Lando expressed condolences to the victim’s family, stating, “On behalf of the entire team at FPD, our hearts go out to the victim’s family. While we know it will not bring Limber back, we hope the arrests in this case will offer some closure to the Lopez Funez family.”

The investigation into this case is ongoing, and further details are currently being withheld. The Frederick Police Department urges anyone with information related to this case to contact Detective Yackovich at 240-549-4450 or kyackovich@FrederickMDPolice.org.
