Staten Island Man Pleads Guilty to Hate Crime Against Jewish Man

STATEN ISLAND, NY – A Staten Island man has recently pleaded guilty to attempted assault as a hate crime after punching a Jewish man wearing a hoodie emblazoned with the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) emblem.

The Brooklyn District Attorney, Eric Gonzalez, announced on Monday that the defendant is expected to be sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation in exchange for his guilty plea.

The defendant, identified as Suleiman Othman, aged 28, pleaded guilty before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun today. His sentencing is set for September 20, 2023. The evidence revealed that on December 26, 2021, the defendant assaulted a 21-year-old Jewish man outside a Foot Locker on 86th Street in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
