Woman Sets Car With Family On Fire In D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Arson Task Force, working jointly with Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, have successfully apprehended a suspect connected to an arson incident that happened Monday evening at the 3900 block of 4th Street in Southeast, D.C. The incident left one man critically injured and one woman is expected to recover.

Following a report of an assault with a person on fire, officers arrived at the scene shortly after 6 pm. They discovered an adult male and female victim inside a vehicle, both of whom had sustained thermal injuries. The male victim’s injuries were severe, and he was urgently taken to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The female victim’s injuries were less severe, and she was also transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Two juveniles who were present in the car did not sustain any injuries.

D.C. resident Diane Williams, aged 49, was apprehended on Monday and is now facing charges of Assault with Intent to Kill. The ongoing investigation by detectives has unveiled that the incident stemmed from a dispute between individuals who are acquainted with each other.


Through their investigation, detectives discovered that the suspect approached a vehicle that was parked and occupied, poured a flammable substance onto it, and intentionally set it ablaze. The suspect was then apprehended by responding officers.
