Top Dem Rep Heaps Praise On Biden For Standing Up After His Fall: ‘Pretty Good’

Democratic Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina praised President Joe Biden for standing up after his fall, despite the fact that three people helped him to his feet.

“I have been saying all the time, age will have an impact. But whether or not it’s determinative, I think that will determined upon whether or not he responds going forward and the way he responds,” Clyburn told CNN host Erica Hill during a Friday “CNN This Morning” appearance.

“Look, I’m more than two years older than the president and I do just fine,” Clyburn continued. “I am not going to have a fall, but if I do, I hope to get up as good as he did.”

President Joe Biden fell during Thursday’s commencement at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Three people had to help the president get up after he reportedly tripped on a sandbag.

“I saw him arriving back at the White House last night doing his little jig,” Clyburn said. “And I think that irrespective of whether it took him two hours to come up with it, given the sandbag, was a pretty good way to respond to this.”

Biden previously had a fall on his bike while in Delaware, stumbled while climbing the stairs of Air Force One and had a near-fall down the stairs of Air Force One on May 19 during his trip to Japan for the G7 summit.

Biden, 80, is the oldest person to serve as President and is running for re-election. Should he win, he will be 86 at the end of his second term.
