State Police Respond to Armed and Barricaded Suspected in Newark

NEWARK, DE – The Delaware State Police are currently addressing a situation involving an armed individual who has barricaded himself at Compass at the Grove Apartments. The incident unfolded on Monday, in the 1100 block of Compass Way.

UPDATED 9:37 am, TUESDAY:

On Monday afternoon, a barricade situation lasting over four hours concluded with the arrest of an individual at a Newark apartment complex.

The event took place at the Compass at the Grove apartment complex, situated within the Grove at Newark, previously recognized as College Square Shopping Center.


The incident commenced when U.S. Marshals arrived at the complex to execute a warrant, leading to an escalation resulting in a barricade. Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell, a spokesperson for Delaware State Police, stated that state troopers were summoned to the location for assistance at approximately 1:20 p.m.
