HUNTINGTOWN, MD – Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office are currently examining the origin and cause of a fatal house fire that took place overnight in Huntingtown.

Emergency response was initiated shortly after 3:00 a.m. when the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department, along with nearby fire departments, received a distress call reporting a house engulfed in flames at the 1600 block of Maurham Court.

Upon arrival, responders were informed that two individuals were potentially trapped inside the residence. It took firefighters nearly two hours to bring the one-alarm blaze under control, but unfortunately, the house eventually collapsed.

With the assistance of heavy equipment from the Prince George’s County Fire Investigation Unit and investigators from the City of Annapolis Fire and Explosive Services Unit, the search for victims continued for several hours. Eventually, the remains of two adults were discovered within the structure.

The deceased individuals were then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for identification and to determine the precise cause of death.
