DOVER, DE – The Dover Police Department arrested Tyrone Kersey, a 37-year-old Dover resident, on Monday, on multiple charges stemming from a shooting incident on Sussex Avenue on June 11.

According to detectives, Kersey engaged in a verbal altercation with a 32-year-old woman from Dover that escalated into physical violence before police arrived on the scene.

Kersey, brandishing a handgun and ignoring police commands, fired a shot into a parked vehicle occupied by the woman and a 1-year-old child. He then pulled the woman, still holding the child, from the vehicle.

Kersey was shot by the police due to the escalating threat. He received on-site treatment before being transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus and later transferred to the Christiana Health System. Kersey now faces a variety of charges, including Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Aggravated Menacing, and Reckless Endangering, among others.

The investigation continues in coordination with the Delaware Department of Justice – Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust.
