Hit and Run Suspects Sought in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying a male suspect involved in a pedestrian hit and run that took place on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at approximately 2:45 p.m.

Police were called to Park Avenue and Roseville Avenue, where they found an adult woman and her 5-year-old daughter who had been struck by a vehicle while crossing in the crosswalk. The driver initially exited his vehicle and assisted the victims to the sidewalk but subsequently returned to his vehicle and fled the scene, heading southbound on Roseville Avenue.

Both victims were transported to University Hospital for evaluation of complaints of pain and are reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with a dark complexion, goatee, and patchy beard, last seen wearing a beige and tan hat. The suspect vehicle, a white 2019 Ford F-550 bearing a company logo belonging to Pena Landscaping & Construction LLC, has been recovered.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous tips received through the Crime Stopper line are kept confidential and may result in a reward. The incident serves as a reminder to the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity promptly to law enforcement.
