POCATELLO, ID – Mohammad Ali Alizadah Nawai, 45, of Boise, was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison followed by 10 years of supervised release for three attempted sex crimes, as announced by U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit. Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill oversaw the sentencing. Nawai was convicted for attempting to transfer obscene materials to a child under 16, attempting to produce child [censored]ography, and attempting to persuade a minor to meet for sexual intercourse.
Court documents reveal that Nawai engaged in communication with an undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old child on an online dating platform. Despite being informed of the minor’s age, Nawai proceeded to request sexually explicit material from the apparent child and sent obscene content, including bestiality and images he claimed were child [censored]ography. He was arrested in Rupert on June 23, 2021, after making arrangements to meet the child for sexual intercourse.
U.S. Attorney Hurwit expressed gratitude to the Rupert Police Department for their role in the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys David Robins and John Shirts.
