SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Riverside County resident Shane Glazer, 30, received a 60-month federal court sentence for possession of a firearm with intentions to distribute drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin.
On June 10, 2022, San Diego police discovered an unconscious Glazer in a running vehicle. Officers located fentanyl, methamphetamine, $3,600 in cash in his fanny pack, and an unregistered “ghost gun” with ammunition in the vehicle. Glazer was subsequently released on bond.
Approximately five weeks after this incident, Glazer was again found unconscious in his car. When confronted, he fled at high speeds, evading traffic signals and reaching speeds over 125 mph. Glazer’s escape attempt ended when he crashed into a freeway embankment. Before being apprehended, he discarded a loaded firearm onto the freeway, forcing oncoming vehicles to maneuver around it. A subsequent search of his vehicle yielded more drugs and $1,546 in cash.
U.S. Attorney Tara McGrath commented on the severity of Glazer’s actions, emphasizing the potential catastrophic outcomes. Chris Bombardiere, the Special Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, added that while privately made firearms can be legally owned, those using them to further drug trafficking will face consequences.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sandor Callahan managed the prosecution. Glazer, from Sun City, CA, faced several charges, including:
- Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime with a maximum life sentence.
- Possession of Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and Heroin with Intent to Distribute, each charge carrying a maximum penalty of twenty years in prison.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). PSN is a collaborative initiative that combines law enforcement efforts with community engagement to decrease violent crime and enhance neighborhood safety.
