CLAYMONT, DE – Early hours of October 19 saw Delaware State Police swooping down on a burglary suspect following a break-in at a Claymont area auto shop. 19-year-old Mekhi Woodard of Wilmington, Delaware, is now under arrest for the said burglary.
Around 1:40 a.m., troopers were called to the Meineke auto shop situated at 3005 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, in response to a burglary report. Investigations at the scene revealed that an unidentified perpetrator had broken into the closed auto shop, making away with an undisclosed sum of cash from a cash register before escaping on foot in an unspecified direction.
Not long after, troopers patrolling the vicinity apprehended a male at a nearby Wawa, whose appearance matched the suspect captured on Meineke’s surveillance footage. Though initially taken into custody, the suspect sought to mislead the troopers by providing a false identity at Troop 1. However, a fingerprint computer inquiry soon positively identified the individual as Mekhi Woodard.
