Ronkonkoma Man Dies from Self-Inflicted Wound After Shooting at Police

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY – Suffolk Police Department reported an incident involving 55-year-old Pedro Laureano, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an altercation with police.

Officers were responding to a 911 call about an intoxicated and suicidal man with a handgun inside a home on Wiggins Street just before 9 a.m.

Upon arrival, Laureano engaged in gunfire with the officers, retreated, and barricaded himself in the house.

Subsequent gunshots heard by the police led to Emergency Service Section officers entering the home, where they found Laureano deceased.

The New York State Attorney General’s Office has been notified and is likely to conduct a further investigation into the incident.
