Train Derailment in Linden: No Injuries or Spills Reported

by Charlie Dwyer

Linden Central Dispatch received calls about a train derailment near Tremley Point Road. Linden Police and Fire Departments were quickly on the scene, where they found an industrial tank railcar stopped across Road to Grasselli.

The incident involved a derailment of eight out of more than 90 tank railcars on the Tremley Point Siding extension of the Conrail Garden State Secondary line, with two railcars tipping onto their side. Fortunately, no breaches in the tanks have been reported, and there are no spills or injuries resulting from the derailment.

While Road to Grasselli has been reopened, first responders will remain at the site for some time to manage the removal of the derailed railcars. The investigation into the cause of the derailment is ongoing.
