WASHINGTON, D.C. – The D.C. Metro Police Department’s First District detectives confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody following an attempted bank robbery in Northwest. The arrest stems from an incident in which a note demanding money was passed to a bank teller, yet the suspect left empty-handed.
The event occurred inside a bank on the 400 block of North Capitol Street at 9:26 a.m. on Friday. Despite the demand, the suspect did not obtain money and fled.
On Saturday, following an investigation, 62-year-old Bruce Alan Smith from Northeast, D.C., was arrested and charged with Attempted Bank Robbery. The D.C. Metro Police Department has expressed gratitude to the US Capitol Police Department and the Amtrak Police Department for their support in apprehending the suspect.
