WASHINGTON, DC – The Metropolitan Police Department’s Financial and Cyber Crimes Unit is calling for public assistance to identify suspects involved in deploying card skimming devices at several establishments across the District. Employees discovered skimmers hidden within payment terminals on multiple occasions, leading to police intervention and the seizure of these devices as evidence.
Incidents include discoveries on March 25 at around 11:27 AM in the 1200 block of 1st Street, Northeast; April 1 at about 11:13 AM in the 400 block of M Street, Southeast; and three occurrences on April 10, with skimmers found at around 9:39 PM and 10:25 PM in the 1800 block of Wisconsin Avenue and the 4500 block of 40th Street, respectively, Northwest. Another device was seized on April 12 at approximately 9:54 AM in the 1700 block of Corcoran Street, Northwest.

The MPD urges vigilance when conducting card transactions, recommending that the public check if the device is secured, compare it to others nearby, and inspect for any misalignments or unusual components. If a skimmer is suspected, individuals should contact police immediately and notify their bank.
