by Breaking Local News Report

Billerica, MA – Sarah Wooten, 23, of Billerica, was arraigned today in Lowell District Court on charges of assault and battery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and discharging a firearm in a dwelling. These charges are in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a 24-year-old woman known to her.

On Saturday, Billerica Police responded to a report of a shooting at a Buckingham Drive home. Officers found the victim inside the home with a gunshot wound to her face. She was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates the incident occurred at the defendant’s home while she was handling a shotgun legally owned by her boyfriend.

Bail was set at $15,000, and Wooten was ordered not to possess any weapons. The next pretrial hearing is scheduled for July 10.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Billerica Police, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office are conducting the ongoing investigation.
