WOODBRIDGE, VA – On Thursday, Jakeline Sanchez and Richard Osmin Ascencio, both implicated in a felony child abuse case, surrendered to authorities. The charges stem from an incident reported on January 22, 2023, at their residence in the 4300 block of Granby Rd. in Woodbridge.
Richard Osmin Ascencio, 31, and Jakeline Sanchez, 28, are each facing charges of felony child abuse. Both individuals are currently held without bond, with court dates pending.
The investigation gained momentum on June 4, when detectives wrapped up their examination of a 19-month-old boy’s death, who was found unresponsive at the same address earlier that year and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. An autopsy indicated signs of abuse, which led to the issuance of arrest warrants after consultations with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
The ongoing case has not yet led to a determination of the child’s cause of death by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Further details surrounding the investigation remain under wraps as the legal process unfolds.
The Prince William County Police Department continues to handle the case, with more information available upon request at their Public Information Office in Woodbridge.
