NEWARK, NJ – Convenience store giant 7-Eleven has announced plans to close 272 locations across America in 2024. This move follows the company’s trend of shutting down underperforming stores, a strategy that saw 184 closures in 2023. The closures are part of a broader response to shifts in consumer spending habits induced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many 7-Elevens have already closed across New York and New Jersey in the past few years and more are expected to be affected by the most recent news.
The specific locations and dates for the 2024 closures have not been disclosed, but the significant increase in the number of closures compared to the previous year highlights the company’s effort to streamline operations and enhance profitability.
Despite these closures, 7-Eleven remains a major player in the convenience store industry.
7-Eleven, while announcing closures has also been opening new superstores with gas stations to compete with Wawa, Royal Farms, and Quick-Chek. One of those locations is in Jackson Township, New Jersey outside of Six Flags Great Adventure.
