WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police have detained 21-year-old Harry Anderson of New Castle, Delaware, on serious gun and drug charges following a high-speed pursuit on Monday evening.
The chase began around 7:57 PM on August 6, 2024, when a trooper, initially responding to an unrelated trespassing incident at the Sunoco/Mini Mart at 1950 Maryland Avenue, noticed an attempt by the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force to apprehend a suspect. Anderson, who was on a blue and white dirt bike and wearing a ski mask, evaded troopers’ commands and sped off eastbound on Maryland Avenue.
Anderson’s reckless driving led through multiple Wilmington streets until his dirt bike slowed abruptly at the intersection of Brown Street and Lower Oak Street, causing a collision with a pursuing Delaware State Police Chevrolet Tahoe. The crash concluded with the bike and Anderson being pushed against a chain-link fence.
Post-collision, Anderson continued to defy verbal commands and reached into his satchel, prompting troopers to deploy a Taser after spotting a firearm under his foot. A loaded “ghost gun” and 36 oxycodone pills were retrieved from the area of his arrest. It was also confirmed that Anderson, a convicted felon, is legally barred from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Anderson was treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash before being charged and transported to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, where he is held on a $59,200 secured bond.
