D.C. police arrest suspect in armed carjacking, seek second individual

WASHINGTON — The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a man in connection with an armed carjacking of a scooter that occurred last week and is searching for a second suspect, authorities said.

On Monday, September 9, 2024, at approximately 12:20 p.m., a victim was carjacked at gunpoint in the Unit block of Florida Avenue, Northwest. Police said the stolen scooter was spotted the next day in the 3100 block of 16th Street, Northwest, being operated by one of the suspects.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Paul Hawkins, of Northwest D.C., attempted to flee but was apprehended by officers. A handgun was recovered at the scene. Hawkins has been charged with armed carjacking.

Police are still seeking a second suspect, who was captured on camera. Authorities have released a photo and are asking the public for assistance in identifying the individual.
