Two boys charged in gang assault on Upper East Side, police seek additional suspects

NEW YORK — Two boys, aged 12 and 13, have been charged in connection with a gang assault that left a 70-year-old man and a 20-year-old man injured in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, according to the New York City Police Department.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 4, 2024, at approximately 8:35 p.m. outside 1871 2nd Avenue, within the confines of the 23rd Precinct. Police reported that the victims became involved in a verbal altercation with five unidentified individuals, which escalated into a physical attack.

Both victims were struck in the face and body by the group. The assailants fled the scene on foot, heading southbound on 2nd Avenue.

The 70-year-old man sustained head and facial injuries and was transported by EMS to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he is in stable condition. The 20-year-old victim, who also suffered facial injuries, was taken to the same hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

A 12-year-old male has been charged with second-degree gang assault, while a 13-year-old male faces a third-degree gang assault charge. Police are still searching for the remaining suspects involved in the attack and have asked for the public’s assistance in identifying them.

The investigation is ongoing.
