Newark Police Request Public’s Assistance in Locating Shooting Victim

Newark, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety has issued a request for the public’s help in locating Hakeem R. Smith, a 33-year-old Newark resident. Smith is wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting incident in which he was a victim on September 27.

Officers responded to a Shot Spotter activation at around 4:47 p.m. on the 100 block of Shephard Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered two 9 mm shell casings. Following an investigation, Smith was identified as the victim of the shooting.

The Newark Public Safety Director, Fritz G. Fragé, is encouraging anyone who might have information on the whereabouts of Hakeem R. Smith to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Providing tips is anonymous and could lead to a reward.
