PHILADELPHIA — Police are investigating the death of a 61-year-old woman whose body was discovered wrapped in plastic and hidden in a closet in her Bustleton home earlier this week. The victim, identified as Lola Karabaeva, was found on Wednesday by officers at her residence on Diplomat Place, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Her husband, Vladimir Lushevskiy, 65, has been charged with abuse of a corpse. Police have stated that additional charges may be forthcoming, pending the results of the ongoing investigation being led by homicide detectives.
In a twist that adds another layer of mystery to the case, the couple had already experienced a tragic loss nearly two decades ago. In 2004, their 19-year-old son, Evgeniy “Eugene” Lushevskiy, disappeared while hiking on Mount Baldy in California during a gap-year journey.
Despite extensive search efforts, including ground teams and helicopters, his remains were not recovered until 2010. They were positively identified in 2011.
The investigation into Karabaeva’s death continues, and authorities have not yet disclosed how or when she died. Further charges against Lushevskiy may be filed as the inquiry progresses.
