Early morning shooting claims life of 28-year-old in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A deadly shooting in Northeast Washington left a 28-year-old man dead early Friday morning, as officials work to piece together details surrounding the incident.

The shooting took place on November 1, 2024, at approximately 3:54 a.m. in the 100 block of 44th Street, NE. Emergency responders arrived to find the victim, later identified as Dwaun Simpson of Southeast D.C., unconscious and not breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS were called to the scene, but Simpson was pronounced dead after showing no signs of life.

Investigators continue to probe the circumstances of the shooting, seeking any information that could lead to an arrest.

Community members with knowledge of the incident are urged to contact the tip line at (202) 727-9099 or text information anonymously to 50411. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for tips that result in an arrest and conviction in connection with this homicide.
