Anonymous New Jersey winner takes $1.13 billion Mega Millions fortune

by Local News Report

TRENTON, NJ – A New Jersey resident has officially claimed the $1.13 billion Mega Millions jackpot, marking one of the largest lottery wins in U.S. history.

The winning ticket, purchased at a ShopRite in Neptune Township, Monmouth County, matched all six numbers from the drawing: 07, 11, 22, 29, 38, with the Gold Mega Ball number 04 and the 2x Megaplier.

New Jersey law allows lottery winners to remain anonymous indefinitely, a measure the claimant has chosen to exercise. According to the New Jersey Lottery, winners of prizes exceeding $600 are required to disclose their identity to officials but can keep it confidential from the public.

The $1.13 billion jackpot is the fifth-largest in Mega Millions history, with the winner set to receive $537.5 million in cash before taxes. New Jersey also saw a financial boost from the drawing, generating $77 million in ticket sales and $27 million allocated toward the jackpot. ShopRite, the retailer that sold the ticket, earned a $30,000 commission.

The record for the largest Mega Millions jackpot remains $1.602 billion, won by a Florida player in August 2023.
