TOMS RIVER, NJ — A fire on the roof of a Toms River medical facility was quickly contained Friday afternoon, with no reported injuries or impact on patient care, officials confirmed.

At approximately 3:53 p.m., crews from Toms River Fire Companies No. 1 and No. 2 responded to an activated fire alarm at Encompass Health on Hospital Drive, followed by reports of visible flames on the building’s roof.

Firefighters arriving on the scene found smoke and flames above the office area and used a water extinguisher to put out the fire, limiting damage to the building’s exterior.

An investigation by Fire Prevention Inspector DeEsposito determined the fire was accidental, caused by a failure of energized electrical equipment on the roof.

The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention encouraged anyone seeking further information to contact Chief Inspector Matthew Janora.
