SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Suffolk County Police Officer Brendon Gallagher, who was critically injured in a crash earlier this month, has been upgraded to fair condition, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Officer Gallagher was hospitalized at Stony Brook University Hospital following a January 5 accident on the Long Island Expressway. The Highway Patrol officer was conducting a traffic stop when a Ford Mustang sped past him. During the attempted stop, the driver lost control and sideswiped Gallagher’s patrol vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and overturn.

The department expressed gratitude to the medical staff aiding in Gallagher’s recovery and asked the community to keep him and his family in their thoughts.
