CUMBERLAND, Md. — A local man has been charged with arson following a fire earlier this month at the Cumberland YMCA, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

On February 7, just before 3:00 p.m., the City of Cumberland Fire Department responded to a reported fire at the YMCA on Baltimore Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters learned that tenants had already extinguished a fire in a third-floor apartment.

At the request of the fire department, the Office of the State Fire Marshal launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Authorities later charged an individual in connection with the incident.

Officials have not released further details as the investigation continues.
