BROOKLYN, NY — A Brooklyn man has been arraigned on charges of attempted rape, robbery as a sexually motivated felony, and other offenses after allegedly attacking a woman jogging in Shirley Chisholm State Park, authorities said.

Amadou Kane, 22, of East New York, was arraigned Monday before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Michael Kitsis. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree robbery as a sexually motivated felony and first-degree attempted rape. Bail was set at $150,000 cash or $350,000 bond, and he is due back in court on April 25.

Prosecutors allege that on September 12, 2023, at about 4:30 p.m., Kane followed a 51-year-old woman on a bicycle before grabbing her from behind, throwing her to the ground, and punching her multiple times. The victim allegedly pulled off the assailant’s mask and recognized him as the man she had just seen riding past.

Authorities say Kane threatened to kill the woman with a knife and ordered her to remove her pants. He allegedly began to undress himself but fled when a passing motorcyclist approached. Before leaving, he took the victim’s Apple Watch, which was later traced to a nearby store where he used Apple Pay to buy a bottle of water.

Key Points:

  • The attack occurred in Shirley Chisholm State Park, where the victim was jogging.
