BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A Brooklyn woman known for operating a luxury wig business is facing serious charges after a crash that killed a mother and two of her children and left a third child critically injured, authorities said.

Miriam “Ellie” Yarimi, 32, was identified as the driver of an Audi A3 that collided with a Toyota Camry rideshare vehicle before striking 34-year-old Natasha Saada and her three children on Saturday, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. Saada and her daughters, ages 8 and 5, were pronounced dead. Her 4-year-old son remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The Camry, operating as an Uber, was carrying a woman and three children, all of whom sustained minor injuries. The driver, a 62-year-old man, was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Police announced Sunday that Yarimi has been charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and assault in connection with the crash. Investigators said Yarimi was driving with a suspended license and noted that excessive speed may have contributed to the collision.

“This was a devastating incident that never should have happened,” Tisch said during a press briefing.

Local news reports stated that Saada and her children were returning home from religious services at the time of the crash. The vehicle involved displayed a personalized license plate referencing Yarimi’s wig business.

Officials also revealed that Yarimi’s driving history included more than 99 traffic violations and over $10,000 in fines, with a portion still unpaid at the time of the incident.
