Cumberland man warned, returns anyway — ends up in cuffs

by Local News Report

CUMBERLAND, MD — A 40-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after returning to a Greene Street business he had been ordered to leave earlier in the day, the Cumberland Police Department reported.

Officers initially responded to a disturbance call at a business in the 200 block of Greene Street on May 21. Store employees told police the male subject was creating a disturbance and refused to leave. Officers made contact with the man, identified as Jason Donald Kaufman of Cumberland, and ordered him to leave the property. He was also warned that returning would result in arrest.

Shortly afterward, police were called back to the same location when employees reported that Kaufman had returned and taken food items without paying.

Kaufman was arrested at the scene and charged with trespassing and theft of less than $100. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and was released on his own recognizance.

The case remains under review by local authorities.
