Gunman fires at woman in Bronx robbery attempt, misses before fleeing

A man fired a gun at a woman’s head during a Bronx street robbery attempt Friday, but missed before fleeing the scene.

BRONX, N.Y. — A 32-year-old woman narrowly escaped serious injury Friday morning after a gunman fired a shot at her during an attempted robbery in University Heights, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. in front of 21 West 183rd Street, where an unidentified male approached the victim from behind and pointed a firearm at the back of her head.

The suspect discharged the weapon, but the shot did not strike the victim. In the ensuing chaos, the woman fell to the ground and struck her head.

Emergency Medical Services transported her to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where she was treated in stable condition for injuries sustained in the fall. No other injuries were reported.

The gunman fled the scene on foot, heading southbound on Davidson Avenue. No arrests have been made.

Police seek public’s help identifying suspect

The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. Authorities have not released any additional identifying details or surveillance footage.

The New York City Police Department continues to investigate the case and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
