Maryland Lottery newcomer floored by $50K win on first-ever ticket

by Local News Report

CROFTON, MD — A nursing student from Anne Arundel County struck big on her very first lottery purchase, winning $50,000 on a Powerball ticket bought at a local grocery store.

The woman, who chose a $2 Quick Pick ticket, made the purchase at the Giant store located at 1649 Crofton Center in Crofton. She had never played the lottery before.

Later that evening, she visited the Maryland Lottery website and discovered she had matched four white balls and the Powerball — a combination worth $50,000. The winning moment was kept quiet, but she said she was “full of excitement on the inside.”

She has not made any plans for her winnings. According to the Maryland Lottery, the prize was claimed without fanfare, and the winner has chosen to remain anonymous.

The Powerball drawing that led to the win occurred on May 21.
