Carjacker caught after botching DC heist

Suspect arrested after failed carjacking attempt in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 40-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly attempting to carjack a vehicle in Northwest and fleeing the scene when he couldn’t get the car to operate.

The incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. on May 20 in the 600 block of 10th Street NW. A suspect approached a victim sitting inside a vehicle, forcefully removed the individual, and attempted to drive off.

The suspect was unable to take control of the vehicle and fled on foot. Responding officers arrived on scene shortly after and apprehended the suspect nearby.

The suspect, identified as Rashad Ricks, who has no fixed address, was arrested and charged with carjacking and destruction of property.
