Coastal flood advisory issued for Ocean County through Friday afternoon

by Breaking Local News Report

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Advisory early Friday for Ocean County, warning of minor tidal flooding in low-lying areas near Barnegat Bay and adjacent tidal waterways.

The advisory, in effect until 2 p.m., forecasts about a half-foot of inundation above ground level. The flooding is expected to impact parks, lots, and some roadways, though widespread closures are not anticipated.

“Flooding with this tidal cycle is primarily confined to Barnegat Bay and nearby tidal waterways,” the NWS stated in its alert. “Tidal flooding is not expected on the oceanfront.”

Officials advised drivers to allow extra time for travel in flood-prone zones and to avoid driving through barricaded or submerged roadways.

Localized impacts expected along back bays

The advisory applies specifically to Ocean and Coastal Ocean counties. Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to take precautions to protect property and to monitor updated forecasts throughout the day.

The flooding risk is expected to subside with the outgoing tide later this afternoon.

Minor tidal flooding is expected near Barnegat Bay Friday, with impacts limited to low-lying roads and properties in Ocean County.
