Seconds to spare! NJ cops drag man from car before train obliterates it

Cops pull impaired driver from car seconds before train smashes into it in New Jersey

by Local News Report

PISCATAWAY, NJ — Two quick-thinking police officers are being hailed as heroes after they pulled an impaired driver from a vehicle stalled on train tracks — just seconds before a high-speed train demolished the car.

Officers Devin Hinchcliffe and John Ward of the Piscataway Township Police Department responded just after midnight last Monday to a report of a car stopped on the tracks. When they arrived, they found the driver still inside and unable to exit the vehicle.

Dashcam footage released by the department shows the officers dragging the man from the car as the crossing gates came down and the sound of an approaching train grew louder.

Moments after the rescue, a speeding train barreled down the tracks and slammed into the vehicle. The driver, who has not been publicly identified, was unharmed thanks to the officers’ swift actions.

Officials have not said whether the man will face any charges. Police confirmed he was impaired at the time of the incident.
