STAFFORD, Va. — A 24-year-old New York man was arrested Saturday night after attempting to flee deputies during a high-speed pursuit in Stafford County, authorities said.
The incident occurred on May 24 around 8:37 p.m., when deputies observed a luxury Italian sports car traveling at a high rate of speed on Mine Road and turning onto westbound Garrisonville Road. Deputies reported the vehicle slid during the turn and tires screeched from the sudden maneuver.
Deputies activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver initially braked and then sped off, triggering a pursuit.
The driver abruptly turned onto Doc Stone Road, passing two other vehicles during the escape attempt. He then made a quick turn onto Worth Avenue and ultimately pulled into the parking lot of Fatty’s Winghouse at 308 Worth Avenue.
Deputies conducted a high-risk stop at the scene and detained both occupants of the vehicle without incident.
Suspect charged with felony eluding
The driver was identified as Breno Pinheiro. When questioned, Pinheiro reportedly told deputies his behavior was due to him “trying to show off.”
He was charged with felony eluding and taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he is being held on a $3,000 secured bond.
No injuries were reported, and the passenger was not charged.
