BRICK, N.J. — A Toms River man was arrested Thursday following an assault and subsequent police pursuit that ended with a Brick Township officer injured in a crash, according to police.
Brick Township Police Chief Dave Forrester announced the arrest of Joseph Yannon in connection with an incident that began on Greenwood Loop Road on May 29. Officers initially responded to the area for a reported assault and found a victim with visible injuries.
Correction: Police incorrectly identified Yannon’s age as 65.

As officers arrived, Yannon fled the scene in a vehicle. During efforts to stop the vehicle, Yannon allegedly drove directly toward a patrol unit, prompting the pursuit to be called off due to safety concerns. “The pursuit was promptly terminated,” officials stated.
A separate officer responding to assist was involved in a single-car crash near the intersection of Herbertsville Road and Lanes Mill Road. The officer sustained facial and arm injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He has since been released.
Law enforcement later located Yannon in North Hanover Township with the help of the New Jersey State Police. He was arrested without incident.
Charges filed and investigation ongoing
Yannon has been charged with aggravated assault, eluding law enforcement, and multiple motor vehicle violations. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the original assault victim or the motive behind the incident.
The Brick Township Police Department credited coordination between multiple agencies in quickly locating and detaining the suspect.
“The Brick Township Police Department extends its appreciation to all responding officers and agencies for their coordinated efforts in ensuring public safety,” a department statement read.
The case remains under investigation and no further information was released regarding upcoming court proceedings.
