70-year-old employee assaulted during Staten Island jewelry store robbery

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Two unidentified individuals assaulted a 70-year-old woman during a robbery at a Staten Island jewelry store Friday afternoon, fleeing with an estimated $5,000 in merchandise, according to police.

The incident occurred around 3:55 p.m. at a store located at 302 New Dorp Lane. Authorities said the suspects entered the shop and struck the woman in the head with a blunt object before removing jewelry from a display case.

The suspects, described only as males with dark complexions wearing all black clothing, fled the scene on foot. As of Sunday, no arrests had been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

The victim was transported to Staten Island University Hospital’s North Campus and is reported to be in stable condition. Police did not specify the type of weapon used in the assault.

Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is being reviewed, and officers are canvassing the area for witnesses.
