GWYNN OAK, Md. — A random act of generosity turned into a $30,000 windfall for a Gwynn Oak man, thanks to a Bonus Crossword scratch-off given to him by his nephew.
The Baltimore County man, a retired graphic designer, visited Maryland Lottery headquarters on Monday to claim the prize. The ticket wasn’t a birthday gift or tied to a holiday — just a spontaneous gesture that paid off big.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was totally shocked,” he said after discovering the top prize win.
He typically plays scratch-offs weekly and was grateful for the surprise ticket. In return, he shared part of his winnings with his nephew, saying, “I threw a couple of dollars his way since he bought the ticket.”
The winning $3 Bonus Crossword ticket was purchased at Hopkins Citgo, 2001 Orleans Street in Baltimore, which will receive a $300 bonus for selling it.
This marks the second top prize claimed from the 7th edition of Bonus Crossword, which launched in February. Six $30,000 top prizes remain.
