PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A Penn Hills man is facing a dozen criminal charges after allegedly assaulting the mother of his children and the children themselves outside a family court building late Wednesday morning, according to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said 36-year-old Marlon McMillan had just left a Protection From Abuse (PFA) hearing at the Family Court Center when he began yelling at the woman and the two children while walking along Forbes Avenue.

According to the sheriff’s office, McMillan tried to convince the children to leave with him. As the mother and children attempted to cross Forbes Avenue to get away, McMillan struck the woman and one of the children. He then grabbed the second child by the neck.

Deputies responded shortly after the incident and were able to confirm the account through witness statements and video evidence, the sheriff’s office reported.

“McMillan was taken into custody and transported to the Allegheny County Jail for arraignment on a dozen charges including aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of children,” the agency said in a statement posted to social media.

Investigation supported by witness accounts and video

The sheriff’s office has not disclosed the ages of the children involved or the extent of their injuries. No additional details were released about the nature of the PFA hearing or whether any protective order had been granted prior to the incident.

McMillan remains in custody at the Allegheny County Jail pending a preliminary hearing. His arraignment took place Wednesday evening.

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review the case for further legal proceedings.
