BRONX, N.Y. — A 5-year-old boy was injured in a chain-snatching incident Saturday afternoon after being targeted by a suspect riding a moped, police said.
The incident occurred around 3:58 p.m. in front of 2565 Marion Avenue, where the child was walking when he was approached by an unidentified male. The suspect forcibly removed a chain from the boy’s neck and fled northbound on Marion Avenue on a moped.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene and treated the child for redness and swelling to his neck.
He was not transported to a hospital.
Authorities described the suspect as a male last seen wearing a multicolored hat, a black jacket, and black jeans. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
“The unidentified individual then forcibly removed a chain from the victim’s neck and fled,” police stated in the report.
Police search for suspect in child robbery case
The suspect’s direction of flight after heading northbound on Marion Avenue remains unknown. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the area in hopes of identifying the individual involved.
