BENSALEM, PA – Bensalem public safety crews responded to two serious crashes Friday morning, including one that left a Philadelphia man dead and another that sent two people to the hospital after a vehicle struck a building.

The first incident occurred at 5:56 a.m. at the intersection of Street Road and Mechanicsville Road. Bensalem Police say 29-year-old Aaron Mines of Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on Street Road when the vehicle lost control and hit a traffic light standard.

Mines was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital by Bensalem EMS, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities are investigating whether impairment or a medical issue contributed to the crash.

Just over four hours later, at 10:04 a.m., officers were dispatched to a second crash at the intersection of Bristol Pike and Station Avenue involving a vehicle that had struck a building.

Police say a Kia Soul driven by 64-year-old Joseph Johnston of Croydon was rear-ended by a large yellow box truck while stopped at the light. The impact pushed the Kia across the opposite lane, through a parking lot, and into a building located at 1927 Bristol Pike.

Investigation into causes ongoing

Johnston and a passenger in the Kia were both taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and are in stable condition. The truck driver, identified as 58-year-old Ely George of Lakewood, New Jersey, was not injured.

The building struck by the Kia sustained visible damage, though no structural integrity concerns have been reported as of Friday.

Both collisions remain under active investigation by the Bensalem Township Police Department.
