DC man shot, police grab suspect with unregistered gun

Suspect arrested after early morning shooting near U Street in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was shot early Saturday morning in Northwest, prompting a swift response from nearby officers who apprehended the suspect minutes after the gunfire.

At approximately 4:31 a.m. on June 7, Third District officers patrolling near 10th and U Streets NW heard gunshots and responded immediately. They located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was conscious and breathing and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police quickly identified and arrested the suspect as 30-year-old Delonte Brown of Northeast, D.C. He was found in possession of an unregistered firearm at the time of his arrest.

Brown has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Carrying a Pistol without a License.

Gunfire near U Street leads to swift arrest

Authorities have not disclosed what led to the shooting or whether the suspect and victim were known to each other. The investigation remains ongoing.

The firearm recovered at the scene will be processed as evidence as detectives continue to examine the events that led up to the incident.
