NANUET, N.Y. — The Clarkstown Police Department’s Street Crime Unit conducted an undercover operation that led to the arrest of two individuals on charges related to prostitution and sex trafficking at a residence on 16 Smith Road.

The investigation began following community complaints and reports of suspected illegal activity. Officers used undercover tactics, including monitoring online platforms known for facilitating such crimes, to gather evidence. Surveillance confirmed the presence of individuals engaged in promoting prostitution and trafficking.

During the operation, police arrested Negri Sanz Del Orbe, 42, and Luis Mendez-Valdez, 31, both residents of Nanuet. They face multiple charges, including sex trafficking, promoting prostitution in the third degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, criminal contempt in the second degree, unlawfully dealing with a child in the first degree, endangering the welfare of a child, permitting prostitution, and criminal nuisance in the second degree.

Several children were discovered inside the residence during the raid. They were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and care. Child Protective Services have since been involved in the ongoing investigation to ensure the children’s safety.

Both suspects were remanded to the Rockland County Jail. Bail was set at $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond, or $300,000 partially secured bond. They are scheduled to appear in Clarkstown Justice Court on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Community tips led to successful sting

The Clarkstown Police Department credited the success of the operation to the cooperation of community members who reported suspicious activity. “The department acknowledges the vital role played by concerned community members in bringing this situation to the attention of law enforcement,” police said in a statement.

Authorities emphasized their continued commitment to combating sex trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals in the community.
