Man struck and killed by SUV in early morning Route 1 crash in Dover

DOVER, DE – A 39-year-old pedestrian was killed early Tuesday after being hit by a Jeep Cherokee on Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway, Delaware State Police said.

The crash occurred around 2:21 a.m. as the SUV was traveling northbound in the right lane near White Oak Road. Police said the pedestrian was walking in the roadway wearing dark, non-reflective clothing and carrying no light source when he was struck by the vehicle.

The pedestrian, a Dover resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

The driver of the Jeep, a 63-year-old man from Berlin, Maryland, was not injured in the incident.

Route 1 was closed for approximately three and a half hours while investigators from the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene.
