MORNINGSIDE, Md. — A New York City resident won a $1 million prize after purchasing a Maryland Lottery scratch-off while visiting a friend in Prince George’s County.
The man, who regularly plays the lottery in any state he visits, bought the winning $20 Millionaire’s Club ticket at Discount Tobacco and 99 Cent Store, located at 6701 Suitland Road in Morningside. The ticket was the final remaining top prize for the Millionaire’s Club game, which launched in July 2024 with five $1 million prizes.
“Just a fun thing to do,” the winner said Thursday while claiming his prize, describing his reaction simply as happy. He noted that this win far surpasses his previous largest prize of under $500.
The winner stated his plan for the money is to invest. The store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
Final top prize claimed for Millionaire’s Club game
The Maryland Lottery confirmed that this prize marks the conclusion of the top-tier wins for the Millionaire’s Club game. The $20 scratch-off game is now left with lower-tier prizes.
This win adds to a series of recent out-of-state victories in Maryland, where lottery players from neighboring and distant states occasionally claim large prizes while visiting.
The Maryland Lottery continues to encourage responsible play and highlights winners as part of its ongoing promotions and player awareness programs.
