Ocean County’s new bomb sniffing dog ready to serve across entire state of New Jersey

Officer Trust and K9 Tank join a growing team dedicated to keeping Ocean County safe.

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office has officially added a new explosive detection team to its K9 Unit following the graduation of Sheriff’s Officer Trust and his K9 partner, Tank, from the New Jersey State Police K9 Academy.

The pair completed 13 weeks of specialized training as part of the Explosive Detection Class #40, graduating on Friday, June 6. During the program, Officer Trust and K9 Tank trained across various locations throughout New Jersey to prepare for their new role.

“This new K9 team will be deployed throughout Ocean County and the State of New Jersey when needed, playing a vital role in public safety and explosive detection,” the department announced.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit now consists of 8 handlers and 13 K9s, each trained in different specialties including tracking, patrol, narcotics detection, and explosives detection. These teams serve all 33 municipalities within Ocean County and assist statewide when requested.

The addition of Officer Trust and K9 Tank further strengthens the department’s capabilities in handling explosive threats and maintaining public safety across the region.
