NEWARK, N.J. — Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., announced the arrests of eight individuals on June 19 following a year-long investigation into narcotics distribution by the department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit.
The suspects face multiple charges including possession and distribution of controlled dangerous substances (CDS), distribution within 1,000 feet of a school, distribution within 500 feet of a public park, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

During the operation, police seized over 1,000 glassine envelopes of heroin, more than 100 grams of crack cocaine, four firearms, and $6,321 in cash. The arrests are part of an ongoing effort to reduce drug-related crime in Newark.
“I commend the detectives of the Criminal Intelligence Unit for their unwavering tenacity in identifying and safely arresting these CDS distribution suspects,” Director Miranda said. “Removing eight suspected narcotics distributors from our streets… supports our crime reduction efforts and produces a safer Newark.”
The department emphasized that all charges are accusations and that the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Newark police say the arrests and seizures significantly disrupt local narcotics activity and reflect the department’s ongoing strategy to reduce violent crime.
